The aircraft lifted off, and Jacob could feel the rush of the wind as the sky began to darken. A man next to him fired his rifle at something outside, but Jacob couldn’t see. Everything was moving too fast, and he felt as though his body were overheating. It started to rain then, but the windows of the cockpit were smeared with black. Jacob looked down to see the drops of viscous, shadowy liquid rap against him, drenching the exposed metal of the interior craft as the vessel soared toward its destination. It’s raining oil? No, that’s only your perspective. Don’t lose yourself again. You need to stay focused.

“Jacob,” said the man, hand on his shoulder again. “You’re looking for a weapon in a place called the Nether Labyrinth. It’s very important that you remember that. Can you repeat it to me?” Jacob’s tongue caught in his throat as he tried to remember how to speak, but all he could do was stutter. The aircraft began to shake, and a flash of light engulfed them, fading out into the black thickness of the smoke. Everyone around him was screaming while the world outside span and span, and he could feel the air tug at him so hard he thought he would snap in two if the flames didn’t kill him first. Don’t fall out. Hold on, and everything will be okay. I promise.
